He shared what led to the decision to spend money and time renovating the Government funded school. 

> Those who know me well know how I have always given credit to my primary school for what I have become. I consider my foundational path fortunate because I had the best teachers on my route from kindergarten to primary 5. They were so good that I remember all of them by name till this day. 

It was a prestigious institution sitting on a hectare of land. That’s triple the size of many learning institutions today. It was a school with international standards that only a few private schools can boast of today.

So you can imagine my sadness when I visited the institution and saw the degenerative state of the facilities. I broke inside. Hence I spent the last three months painstakingly seeing to the renovation of the 20 classroom block, 2 staff rooms and 1 library. In this building, I spent my final years (primaries 4 and 5).

> The Vice Chancellor, University of Benin, Professor Lilian Salami has appealed to Nigerian students not to despair amid the ongoing industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Professor Salami, who gave the charge Wednesday, on a radio interview in Benin City, also advised the students to shun vices and brace up for serious academic work as soon as the strike is called off.

She appealed to the students to, in the meantime, acquire vocational skills ahead of the resolution of the trade dispute between the striking university lecturers and the federal government.

UNIBEN ANNOUNCES RE- OPENING OF THE UNIVERSITY AND CONTINUATION OF TRUNCATED 2020/2021 ACADEMIC SESSION.

The University of Benin Senate has amended the Institution's 2020/2021 academic calendar and approved Sunday 23rd October, 2022, for students to return to halls of residence. 

Lectures are expected to continue on 24th October as the 2nd Semester was truncated for eight months following the recently suspended strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU. 

The semester is to run until 23rd December. 

Meanwhile, online registration of new students admitted for the 2021/2022 begins on the 2nd of December. 

The Vice Chancellor, Professor, Lilian Salami, who presided over the Senate meeting, solicited the cooperation and support of staff and students to ensure successful academic activities.

Uniben Announce Resumption Date

> Management of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) has lauded the University of Benin Alumni Association North America (UBAANA) for its kind donation of the sum of N5,760,000,00 to the University Management.

The University’s appreciation message was conveyed in a letter addressed to the President and members of UBAANA by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Lilian Salami.

A copy of the letter made available to CAMPUS GIST was dated November 28, 2022, and titled “letter of acknowledgement and appreciation.”

The donation by UBAANA, this online media reliably gathered, is for the purchase of computers and other accessories to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Exams and Records Division of the University.

Meanwhile, the University has since utilised the donation for the purchase of computers and other accessories to enhance the processing and issuance of transcripts to its Alumni worldwide.

The Vice Chancellor, who noted this, thanked UBAANA President, Mr Alex Eronmwon and members of the Association for the kind gesture and assured that the items would be used for the purpose for which they were meant for.

Since inception, UBAANA has been actively involved in rallying support for the development of its Alma mater, offering tremendous help to the present administration. Only recently, the Association built and donated a relaxation centre to the Ekehuan campus of the University, in giving back to the society.

AKPATA AND UNIBEN INCIDENT: THE UNRAVELING PARADOX OF AN "UNLAWYERLY" LAWYER

Being a lawyer involves upholding professional standards and etiquette. Lawyers are generally expected to conduct themselves with professionalism, integrity, and most importantly, respect towards others.

This was however not the case with former NBA President Olumide Akpata who on Friday, showed the other side of the coin when he descended into the arena to refer to students as hoodlums and went on to brazenly unleash the firepower of his security details on students for simply seeking to have an interaction with him. 

The Labour Party Governorship Candidate was a guest of the Senior Staff Association of the University of Benin for an interactive session at the senior staff club at the Ugbowo campus.

However, in the course of the event, some students arrived the venue to have a dialogue with him and ascertain his plans for Students if elected Governor of Edo State

Rather than give them audience, Akpata proceeded to call the students hoodlums, an action which further infuriated them and led to a protest. 

The ensuing protest resulted in an overzealous security operative opening fire in order to dispel the students, creating a fracas that could have been avoided in which a UNIBEN staff and some students were injured.

Barrister Akpata's action showed him to be arrogant, impetuous and entitled. As an alumnus of the institution, it is expected that Barrister Akpata would have been able to address the students in a conciliatory tone that will assuage their feelings and create room for a more cordial and robust relationship with the students.
But then, it would appear that violence is never quite far from the pugilistic Akpata.

It will be recalled that Akpata, as NBA President, oversaw the most shameful NBA-Annual General Conference in 2022 that was marred by violence as Committee members loyal to him clashed with lawyers who were protesting against the inadequate supply of conference materials. 

In the build up to the primaries of the Labour Party, the same Olumide Akpata orchestrated the brutalisation of Labour Party National Chairman Julius Abure and used the police to harass and intimidate him when he felt that the Party primaries and congresses were not going his way.

It is thus no surprise that security operatives attached to him would resort to shooting sporadically in a bid to dispel protesting students. 
Such high-handedness is totally unacceptable.

It is even more despicable to desecrate a revered tertiary Institution like the Great University of Benin and intimidate students with his security details. 

In the immortal words of former British Prime Minister, Benjamin Disraeli, "A University should be a place of light, of liberty, and of learning." It is a grave moral evil to dishonour the sanctity of the University with such violence.

The desperation of Partisan politics has no place within the hallowed walls of a university and it is the barest minimum for any civil person to respect it.

The ugly incident of Friday is a sneak preview of what might likely happen if Edo State ever has the misfortune of having Olumide Akpata as Governor.

A fast-rising Nigerian singer, Mr. Emmanuel Azuka Nkemchor, alias Reeze, has been reported dead.

CAMPUS GIST reliably gathered that Reeze died Tuesday afternoon, days after a “successful” brain surgery.

Reeze was recently involved in auto crash which, sources told CAMPUS GIST, left his brain injured.

The artist had to undergo a brain surgery in a private hospital in Lagos to have his injuries treated.

He was admitted to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and had remained in coma until recently when he regained consciousness.

His younger sister had only today confirmed that the artist was better and recuperating while urging for prayers for Reeze.

But hours later, the sad news of his sudden demise broke out and shook the social media.

It was gathered that the “Uniben shout-out” crooner died after falling into another coma days after the “successful” brain surgery.

Reeze shot into fame during his days as an undergraduate at the University of Benin with his single, “Hunger Never Catch You”.

He was said to be working on a “major [music] project” until the auto crash which eventually cost him his life.

Friends and colleagues of the deceased have since taken to social media to mourn his demise.

Edo govt condemns clash between LP candidate, Akpata and UNIBEN SUG

The Edo State Government condemns in the strongest terms the violence associated with the Labour Party candidate, Mr. Olumide Akpata's visit to the University of Benin on Friday, April 12, 2024.

Claims and counterclaims have been made by Mr. Akpata and the Student Union Government (SUG) of the University in statements issued by both parties on April 13, and active investigation is ongoing on the issue.

The Edo State Government, however, warns in the strongest terms that it will not tolerate violence or this sort of irresponsible behaviour which was associated with the visit of Mr. Akpata to the institution.

Government has the primary responsibility to ensure the security of lives and property in the State and will spare no effort to ensure that anyone who breaches the peace, no matter how highly placed, will face the full weight of the law.

We hereby call on all Edo people to go about their lawful businesses without let as relevant agencies progress with their investigation into the said matter.

Edo Govt Condemns Clash Between LP Candidate, Akpata And UNIBEN SUG

> The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has asked the management of the University of Benin to withdraw the degree certificate it issued to the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola (SAN).

Fashola, a former governor of Lagos State graduated from the law department of the university some decades ago.

The minister on Wednesday said the obstruction of vehicular movement on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway by NANS is a violation of the law.

"The right to protest is a very well-protected right in our Constitution, but it does not include the right to inflict pain and inconvenience on other people. And so, whilst the protests can go on, they should refrain from blocking the road in order to do their protests. That in itself is a violation of law,” Fashola had said.

Reacting, NANS spokesperson, Giwa Yisa Temitope, said the minister’s statement showed that he is enmeshed in a big contradiction in terms of what the law says.

The students’ movement called on the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to start the process of withdrawing Fashola's law degree.

The statement read, “He tries to trivialize a very important issue by watering down the law. Aside from the clear nature of the letters of Section 2 of the constitution on fundamental human rights, Fashola should tell us how a protest is embedded in the right to "inflict pain and inconvenience on other people?"

“As far as NANS is concerned, Fashola has long shown that he does not understand the laws of Nigeria. Same person who heralds a SANship to his name went ahead to attempt to destroy evidence on the very crucial Lekki massacre. Nigerian youths do not respect Fashola and his fake ideals anymore.

“The best is for the minister to go and make restitutions with the Buhari government to pay ASUU now rather than appeal for a suspension of the protest we have begun.

“If Fashola continues to tongue-attack our protests, we would start preparing to prevent another attack on our movement. We know that the same Fashola has started contacting government agents and thugs to attack us. We want to put it on notice that should anything happen to our students in any part of the country, we will hold Minister Fashola responsible.

“However, we call on ASUU UNIBEN to start the process of withdrawing Fashola's Law degree. Just as we reiterate our demand for a meeting with ASUU leadership soon. We need constructive synergy to win this struggle.

“Finally, we apologize to all our parents and friends who have been affected by these protests. We appeal that we are condemned to act bow as the education of Nigeria at all levels is at stake. And as you know, a nation that fails to care about education is planning to pay heavily for the consequences of mass ignorance. Victory is certain!

“And, we also state that there is already a taskforce in place to enforce compliance which is headed by a former VP of the association, Ojo Raymond Olumide. So, there shall be no going back and we shall continue this struggle.”

It was a gathering of “who is who” in the society as hundreds of alumni of the prestigious University of Benin (UNIBEN) reunited recently in the United States of America (USA) for the University of Benin Alumni Association, North America (UBAANA) 16th Annual reunion.

The ceremony brought together different sets of former students of the great citadel of learning from far and wide and provided a platform to share old stories, achievements, connections and how they can work together for the benefit of their alma mater.

Some of the dignitaries who graced this year’s reunion were the University’s top echelon including the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Olor’ogun Dr Sonny Kuku; Vice Chancellor, Professor Lilian Salami and Bursar, Mr Victor Imagbe.

The reunion also attracted top alumni from far away Nigeria including President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Olumide Akpata – who was the keynote speaker; and the Chief Medical Director, University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Professor Darlington Obaseki.

Speaking at the auspicious ceremony held in Chicago, United States, President of the UBAANA, Alex Imuetinyan Eronmwon, reeled out some of the achievements of his “dream team” led executive committee since their inauguration on 31st July, 2021.

He said, “We focused our energies on renewing our membership drive…we now have more active members. Additionally, members have been paying their dues within the stipulated timeframe. This is an added advantage for growth and development.”

President Eronmwon revealed that all standing committees have been reconstituted, adding, “new chapters are already in the pipeline. On June 26, 2022, we inaugurated the Northern California chapter. We plan on launching the Massachusetts chapter in a couple of months.”

He said UBAANA has continued to support the University Management, donating projects, including the construction of the UBAANA Recreation Centre at Ekehuan campus of the University, which has now been completed and awaiting commissioning. Eronmwon revealed that a similar but much larger project would be executed at the Ugbowo campus by UBAANA.

“Based on the great need and long-standing challenges with obtaining transcripts from the University, we were able to come up with a plan to revamp the transcript issuance process at the Exams and Records Division and consequently, UBAANA will be supporting them with desktop computers, printers and scanners to expedite retrieval of transcripts”, he added.

On the recent loss of two illustrious former Vice Chancellors of the University, President Eronmwon disclosed that UBAANA engaged in providing support during the passing of Professor Grace Alele-Williams, and will be doing same for Emeritus Professor Osayuki Godwin Oshodin.

Mr Eronmwon reiterated his committment in moving the Association forward, for the good of UNIBEN; while expressing profound gratitude to his team and members of UBAANA for their dedication, sponsors for their magnanimity, and dignitaries for taking time off their busy schedules to grace the reunion.

For the University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Lilian Salami, it was another golden opportunity to laud the Alumni body for its unwavering support towards her Administration since inception in 2019, and seek for a more cordial relationship and support for her Administration’s success, going forward.

Mounting the podium, in her goodwill message, Professor Salami said she was pleased to be part of the 16th Reunion, being the first physical reunion in three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and her first physical attendance since becoming Vice Chancellor.

She lauded UBAANA and her members for always having University of Benin in a good place in their heart and for showing “significant desire” and “committment” toward the growth and development of the University, both individually and collectively.

Professor Salami noted that the UBAANA Annual Reunion has become an international event which UNIBEN Alumni worldwide look forward to attending, adding, “This feat is not unconnected with your ability to live up to the University Moto, ‘Knowledge for Service’, in all areas of your public and private endeavours, which has made you winners. Everybody wants to identify with winners.”

The Vice Chancellor commended UBAANA for her contributions towards her alma mater, noting, “Indeed, your numerous breakthrough and achievements in your profession or vocation and your contributions to the growth and development of the University of Benin are worthy of commendation.”

She listed some of UBAANA and her members’ support towards her Administration to include the donation of 10,000 face masks at the heat of COVID-19, renovation and painting of the common rooms and reading rooms of the Halls of Residence, construction of the UBAANA Recreation Centre, to the donation of computers and audio-visual equipment worth N2.8 million in support of digital education and entrepreneurship laboratory.

Professor Salami said despite the challenges facing Nigerian Universities, management under her leadership has judiciously used the available human and financial resources to carry out various projects and activities in the University since she assumed office in 2019. She went ahead to list some of the projects that have been undertaken during her tenure which ran into 37.

While thanking UBAANA for her past and present contributions to the University of Benin, the Vice Chancellor craved an increased and continued contributions of the Alumni body both individually and collectively as “able and trustworthy partners in progress.”

Professor Salami called on all UNIBEN Alumni worldwide to participate, promote and sustain their individual and collective interests in the activities of the University of Benin in a “mutually beneficial manner”, even as the University continues to live up to her mission statement.

Members were treated to a nicely packaged activities lined up to spice up the reunion including Golf outing, Boat ride, Leadership forum, Picnic and Gala night. It is noteworthy to mention that so many UBAANA members from the United States and Nigeria honoured this year’s reunion.

Major highlights of the UBAANA’s 16th Annual Reunion was the presentation of a posthumous award to the first indigenous and late former Vice Chancellor, Emeritus Professor Osayuki Godwin Oshodin, who recently passed away after a brief illness at age 71; and presentation of awards to some alumni by UBAANA’s President, Alex Imuetinyan Eronmwon.

Dear colleagues,

It is no news that ASUU, SSANU, NASU and NAAT in most Universities are on strike. We will continue to hope that areas of grievances are resolved soon so that normalcy returns to our institutions. I, however, urge lecturers and students to use the period to update their notes, and work towards breaking new grounds.

1. The remains of our late icon, amazon and pacesetter, Prof. Grace Awani Alele-Williams, have been successfully buried. The Uniben family participated actively in the ceremonies. May God rest her soul.
2. A Confederation of over 40 universities has signed an MoU in Brazil with the FG(Tetfund) and the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA), for postgraduate training of junior and medium cadre lecturers in Agricultural fields using the 6 Tetfund Centres of Excellence, Uniben inclusive. The trainings are expected to be expanded to include other programmes.

Strike: UNIBEN VC Gives Update On Projects, Other Developments

Here is an exclusive interview with Steve Oshiokhai Eshiemogie, a First-Class Chemical Engineering graduate from the University of Benin, with a graduating CGPA of 4.79/5.0.

As an Undergraduate student, Steve co-authored several scientific papers, and has published some of his articles with top publishing giants like Elsevier and Springer Nature group. In 2021, Steve was recognized by the prestigious Lancaster University, United Kingdom, for his contribution towards providing sustainable bioenergy solutions to rural communities in Nigeria. Earlier, in late 2020, Steve won the LEAP Africa's Youth Leadership Program change project competition, for his work on bioenergy generation from organic waste.

Steve is the founder of Green Africa Initiative, a non-profit organization, focused on educating young Nigerians on waste-to-energy solutions.

How do you feel to have graduated with a First-Class in Chemical Engineering?

I feel good to have graduated with First-Class Honors. While in school, graduating with a first class was not actually my priority, I was more focused on gaining fundamental knowledge and carrying out scientific research. I am a naturally brilliant person, so getting good grades was relatively easy for me. 

What was your reading schedule like?

Well, I am a day-time reader. Back in school, I rarely ever studied at night. My reading plan was pretty simple. After classes, I used to go to the library to study for about 3, then I would wrap-it-up for the day and go to the laboratory or go back home. That was my regular cycle. I was however, not absolutely consistent with going to the library. But that was typically my reading schedule.

Were you always on a First-Class?

No, I wasn't. In fact, I was not on a First-Class throughout my 100 Level. I think I had a 4.18/5.0 in my first semester of 100 Level, and a 4.3 in my second semester. While in 100 Level, I was very grade-conscious, to be honest. I was a freshman and I studied very hard to get good grades, sadly it did not work out as planned. By 200 Level, I stopped studying for grades. That was the level I developed genuine interest in acquiring knowledge for the sake of becoming knowledgeable in my field. In 200 level, I was so obsessed with engineering. I remember I used to study a particular civil engineering course on beams and structures. On my way home from the library after studying the course, I would always stop by at buildings under construction, then I would begin analyzing the forces and trusses on the roofing beams and pillars. It was very interesting. In my 200 Level, I had a 4.92/5.0, and ever since then, my results never dropped below a first class. My highest CGPA was in 400 Level, with a 4.96/5.0.

How was undergraduate life for you?

My undergraduate life was actually centered on research. I love research, I love spending my time in the laboratory, conducting and monitoring experiments. During my last years of undergraduate study, I spent almost all of my time at the Ecotoxicology Laboratory, University of Benin. I was working on a project that was focused on the sustainable conversion of bio-waste materials into bioenergy. In the course of the project, I worked with various PhD students, doctors and professors. So yes, my undergraduate life was mostly focused on research. In my final year, I authored 2 scholarly papers, with one currently published in Elsevier's Cleaner Engineering and Technology Journal. That was my first first-author paper. I also have a paper published by Springer Nature group.

You were once recognized by Lancaster University, United Kingdom. Tell us about it.

What's your plan after graduation?

I intend obtaining a Doctorate degree (PhD) in Chemical or Biochemical engineering, in a world-class engineering University like Georgia Institute of Technology, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute - New York, California Institute of Technology, or Massachusetts institute of Technology, All in the United States of America. For my PhD, I want to focus on the application of biotechnology for the common purposes of life. Specifically, I want to research and develop novel ways to engineer enzymes for the production of useful materials such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and biofuels.

What are your long term goals?

Long-term, I will like to start-up a biotechnology firm that will be into the sustainable production of biochemicals, pharmaceuticals and biofuels. Also, as one passionate about youth development and leadership, it is my desire to give back to my local community, by establishing state-of-the-art schools, where young students in Nigeria will be able to get access to world-class education.

The remains of late former Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Professor Emeritus Osayuki Godwin Oshodin was, yesterday, committed to mother earth, in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

This was following a Funeral Service held at the Rev. Emokpae Memorial Baptist Church, in Benin City at 10:00AM. CAMPUS GIST understands that, the interment was strictly for family members only.

Meanwhile, the ceremony will come to a close with a Thanksgiving Service at the Rev. Emokpae Memorial Baptist Church on Sunday 21st August by 10:00AM, followed by entertainment of guests at Horatio Marquee, Edo Hotel, GRA, Benin City.

Earlier on Friday 19th August, 2022, a commendation service was organised by the University of Benin in honour of her fallen first indigenous Vice Chancellor of Benin extraction.

The service was attended by the wife of the deceased who is also the immediate past Registrar of UNIBEN, Mrs Otasowie Oshodin; children, and family members of Oshodin.

Members of the University management team led by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Lilian Salami; former Vice Chancellors of the institution, Professor Emerita graced the ceremony.

The event also attracted visiting Vice Chancellors including VCs of Igbinedion University, Okada, Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, University of Delta, Agbor, Prof. (Mrs) Stella Chiemeke; and Rector, Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, Prof. Abiodun Falodun, amongst others.

Some striking union members and staff of the University defied the ongoing strike by university unions to pay their last respect to the man who had been termed “Uniben unifier”.

In his sermon, the officiating minister eulogised the deceased for being a good and upright man, touching the lives of many, putting food on their table by taking their bread winners off the Labour market.

He asked the gathering to pray to God and ask for the grace to “die well”. His mind words about Oshodin was met with a loud minute-long ovation for the deceased by the gathering.

At the ceremony, a compendium of tributes which was published by the University in honour of her late former VC, was formally distributed to the family and attendees.

Late Professor Emeritus Oshodin, the UNIBEN 8th substantive Vice Chancellor, died early Sunday morning 29th May, 2022, in Benin City, at 71, after a brief illness.

Until his demise, Prof. Oshodin was married to Mrs Otasowie, immediate past Registrar of UNIBEN. He was at last year’s Convocation of the University unveiled as Professor Emeritus.

> Our attention has been drawn to a viral story making the rounds on social media, which is believed to have originated from a fake news-laden online platform, naijaworld, to the effect that a "popular Uniben rapper, Orekis is dead."

We wish to formally debunk the fake and misleading story and state categorically that the UNIBEN-breed artist is alive, hale and hearty.

It is true that Orekis was recently involved in an accident alongside two other popular UNIBEN stars - AY and Reeze. Sadly, Reeze, unfortunately, couldn't make it. 

This is not the time to spread unnecessary panic or add to the emotional and physical pains the "accidented" artists are going through, having lost one of their colleagues. 

We advise the purveyors of the fake news to desist forthwith from spreading unverified reports capable of causing mental and physical harm to people and their loved ones. 

To friends, well-wishers, admirers and fans of the "broken" artists who have since inundated their phone lines with calls, kindly continue to pray for full recovery for them, and repose of soul for our late colleague, Reeze.

FAKE NEWS: UNIBEN RAPPER, OREKIS, NOT DEAD

> The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) on Monday performed a groundbreaking for an ultra-modern recreation centre at the Ekewan campus of the institution.

Laying the foundation, the SUG President, Mr Foster Amadin, said the union attracted the project to prove that both the Ekewan and Ugbowo were one UNIBEN.

The project, he added, would also address the complaint by students on the campus that they had been maligned and sidelined.

“It was part of fulfilling the promises made during our election.

“They also have complained of not having a single relaxation spot in their campus environment as it is either they are in their hostel or classrooms.

“Despite the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), there is need to keep to promises in serving the general interest of the students which we have sworn to represent.

“Basically, we hope to see to the finishing of the project in a month time so students can charge their phones, relax and enjoy in the comfort of a modern relaxation spot upon resumption,” he said.

The students union leader assured the students that his administration would always go for anything that was beneficial to them, as that what they had sworn to do.

He commended the UNIBEN Alumni Association in North America for financing and powering this project and also the management of the university for its support.

Amadin stated that the SUG under him was committed to achieve more projects subsequently.

He, however, lamented the prolonged industrial action by the ASUU, saying that the students union will not keep mute forever if the strike was not called off on earnest.

UNIBEN SUG Lays Foundation For Recreation Complex At Ekewan Campus

> The University of Benin Alumni Association North America (UBAANA) has donated computers and other accessories valued at N5.76 million to the University of Benin. The items were donated to enhance the processing and issuance of transcripts by the Exams and Records Division of the University.

CAMPUS GIST recalls that President of UBAANA, Mr. Alex Imuetinyan Eronmwon had during a courtesy visit to the University Management, recently, announced plans for such donations including Desktop Computers, HP LaserJet printers, Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS), HP Scanner, and a HP Copier.

Receiving the items, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Lilian Salami, thanked the UBAANA President, Mr Alex Eronmwon and members of the Association for the kind gesture and assured them that the items would be used for the purpose for which they were donated.

Present at the presentation ceremony alongside the Vice Chancellor were the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Catherine Ukponmwan; the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Ekehuan Campus, Professor A. The Joy of Ojo Busuyi popularly known as Jobus, knew no bounds as he completes his final exam and signed out of the Department of Theatre Arts, University of Benin on Saturday morning. Ojo Busuyi Jobus is the President and Publisher of All Campus Show and also the Chief Editor Makia News.

Speaking with ACS Correspondent, Mr Jobus who was very excited about the occasion, expressed deep gratitude to God Almighty for making this long awaited dream, a reality, he further disclosed that the dream of obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree was ignited by former UNILAG VC, Professor Rahaman Ade Bello and his Friend Shola Ninalowo, a former Director of Sports, 2015.

Bent on yielding to the advice, the entertainment entrepreneur was determinto to engage the due process of acquiring the degree, and thus left the Comfort of Lagos for Benin in order to concentrate. 

“As an entertainment enterprenuer, I had to leave Lagos for Benin to avoid distractions and also because I want to do it myself, I did not want to purchase result, I saw that as corruption.

Before my departure from Lagos, I rounded up All Campus Show with a big event of All Campus Show 'celebrity cafe' official launch, 10 years anniversary of All Campus Show and my send forth to school in Durban int'l hotel, Lagos. I also terminated my appointment with some organizations I was engaged with like: Corruption Not in my Country as the coordinator, Tinsel as an actor, E-Talk Naija show as the producer and others.

“In 2017 I arrived Benin with nothing, no work, no sponsor but I believed in God's directions. I ran the JUPEB Program which earned me direct entry to 200L, the transformation from Lagos to Benin was not easy at all but I persevered, I continued All Campus Show here in Benin and I also started a restaurant, now I am flying well with long wings. 

“Although there were lots of challenges like the ASUU strikes, hunger, the lack of power supply, the pressure, loneliness and all, I always encouraged myself throughout the process.” He said

Most of his Thespian’17 colleagues equally signing out as well, were amazed by his unusual appearance for the occasion as it stirred up mixed reactions from them. 

We asked why he changed his appearance and 
according to him,
“Today is my signing out, and I originated the concept of dying my hair to white as a display of Creativity. A Thespian must always be creative, so instead of wearing white clothes for people to sign on it, I tinted my hair white and as you can see, The inscription on the black T-shirt I'm putting on says 'Sign on my head' 

However, I did that because I really do not enjoy the so called classmates because of some certain attitude display , you may not understand, but I believe they do, Although some of them are good , I don't do what they are doinI. In a bid to be creative, I wrote 'Sign on my head' on my outfit. And I doubt they will do so.” he stated.

Rounding off the interview, ACS Correspondent, Miss Melanie Joel, Congratulated the great publisher on behalf of the entire ACS Crew as she relayed the wishes of the Crew members to him. 

Jobus expressed gratitude again to God, and his crew members, as he also thanked his Parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ojo and his siblings for their support. 

He also mentioned in appreciation former SUG President of UNIBEN, Raymond Omorogbe and his cousin, Uyi Valentine, who both assisted him in all ramifications, including shelter. 

Furthermore, he thanked his lecturers who taught him, and commended them for giving their best amidst strikes and all issues and choosing to contribute to the success of their Students.

He also encouraged others interested in going to school to do so without hesitations, adding that they can even do so, while working. 

“The stress is for a while, go to classes, write test and exams, behave yourself and also know that the country we are in, will not help you, as things have changed. Before now, they say, face your books, but now I want to tell you to face your books and your career too. Share the responsibilities on your career and book, don't focus on academics alone, it doesn't work like that again, unless if your parents have where to fix you after school, then you can far your academics 100 percent but otherwise, do the needful. He concluded.

Nycn Sympatize With Uniben On The Loss Of Their Former Vc Prof.osayuki Oshodin

A Nigerian student approached a suya vendor and made a wager with him, boasting that he could devour the entire stick of smoked beef.

They decided that if he could finish the suya, he would not have to pay anything, but if he couldn’t, he would have to pay for the ones he didn’t finish.

Unfortunately for the young man, he was unable to accomplish the task and thus lost the bet. It is said to have occurred at the University of Benin.

The student ate N12,200 worth of Suya out of a total of N22,700 for the full bunch, and his body couldn’t take it any longer.

Because he had lost the bet and had no money to pay, the suya guy threatened to take him home.

The suya salesman gripped the young man by his knicker in a video shared on social media as he sought to regain his balance after a large lunch.
