There will be a portal opened when this program officially kicks off in the next few weeks, to help you apply for these 20-hour-a-week jobs, to help you finance your stay in Germany while you search for a job. Path to Permanent Residence: While the Opportunity Card itself is a temporary residence permit, it can pave the way for obtaining a permanent residence permit in Germany. Successful integration into the workforce and meeting certain criteria may lead to permanent residency.

Simplified Entry and Job Search Procedures: The Opportunity Card streamlines the entry process for you as a skilled worker from a non-EU country, making it easier to enter Germany and seek employment. THE immediate past Director-General of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Babatunde Irukera, has said that the ‘predatory pricing’ allegation by foreign airlines against Air Peace threatened the airline’s access to the global aviation market with its commencement of the Lagos-London route.

Irukera, who spoke exclusively with The ICIR on Thursday, April 11, said there was nothing wrong with a ‘price war’, but allegations of ‘predatory pricing’ by the chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, could not be swept under the carpet and must be investigated.

Investopedia describes “predatory pricing” as the illegal business practice of setting prices for a product unrealistically low to eliminate the competition. Predatory pricing violates antitrust laws, aiming to create a monopoly.

Air Peace commenced its flight operations from Nigeria to London on March 30, with Gatwick Airport as its designated destination.

The airline slashed the hitherto economy class from an average of N3.5 million from Lagos to London to about N1.2 million, a reduction of approximately 66 per cent.

There were concerns that other deep-pocket international competitors would have to lower their prices below cost due to its arrival in the global aviation market.

“The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and FCCPC should urgently investigate ‘predatory pricing’ concerns raised by the management of Airpeace Airline with some International Airlines,” Irukera said.

“When you go below market price, knowing that any competitor who doesn’t have the financial muscle or market share than you will not survive is called ‘predatory pricing’. In most cases, those competitors die off, and the other competitor comes in to muscle the market. Air Peace is alleging that that is what is happening. It’s not a mere allegation and needs complex investigations to confirm that,” Irukera added.

He urged all relevant government agencies to examine all the issues and service provisions so Air Peace wouldn’t be pushed out of the market.

According to Irukera, the FCCPC, in alliance with the NCAA, should invoke the provisions of section 112 of the FCCP Act, which prohibits excessive or manifestly unjust and unreasonable pricing.

“The investigation should look at, let’s say, the Heathrow and Gatwick markets, the equipment they are flying, cost of maintenance, ground landing costs, average load, cost spendings, payroll costs of Virgin, British Airways, and other competitors to determine averagely what price should be to ascertain who is flouting the law,” he further stated.

Notably, the global civil aviation market size was worth around $842.71 billion in 2022 and is predicted to grow to around $1.631 trillion by 2030 with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of roughly 8.62 per cent between 2023 and 2030.

Findings by The ICIR showed that foreign airlines have started crashing their airline ticket prices below those of Air Peace for the Lagos—London route.

Analysts observed that the emergence of Air Peace on that route had threatened the profit margins of these foreign airlines.

“It is likely that as a result of this, they would try to frustrate Air Peace and take them out of business. This will be easy for them to do because they have the cash reserve they need to start a “price war”, “an economic analyst, Stanley Umezilike, said.

“Their goal, perhaps, is to reduce the price to the barest minimum and increase it 20 times over the moment they succeed in crippling Air Peace. Some of these foreign airlines were charging ₦15 million to ₦17 million for business class for the Lagos- London route.

Further findings revealed that Air Peace reduced the price to four million naira for business class and started charging ₦1.2 million for economy class.

However, some of them are now selling their economy tickets for as low as ₦700,000.

A former senator from Kaduna State, Shehu Sani, also shared a similar concern and explained that foreign airlines were crashing their prices because of Air Peace.

Irukera Seeks Probe Into Foreign Airlines ‘Predatory Pricing’ Against Air Peace

The Nigerian Immigration Service has justified its decision to demand proof of state of Origin from passport applicants.

It also clarified recent concerns surrounding the passport renewal process,stating that applicants are not obligated to travel to their states of origin before they can obtain the required indigenship documents.

The clarification comes in response to a tweet by X user,Tayo Oviosu,expressing frustration over the alleged requirenent to obtain a letter from one's states of origin for passport renewal.

Oviosu questioned the logic behind such a policy particularly for individuals like himself who have limited ties to their states of origin.

"So I should go to Edo State,which I have visited two or three times max,to get a document?How would they know I am from there?We created our own problems.

In its response to Oviosu's tweet,the immigration service acknowledged the concern and clarified that physical travel to one's state of origin is not mandatory for obtaining the the indigenship document. 

Emphasizing the rationale behind the documentation requirements,the Immigration Service stated that every requirement is carefully considered and legally supported by government laws and policies.

The service wrote,"First of all you don't necessarily need to go to your state of origin to get the indigenship document.

"We are aware that most states have liaison offices in other states.For examples,Anambra State has liaison office in Lagos(Eti-Osa) and Abuja (Asokiro).These offices are empowered to issue such document.

Having said this,every document that the service requires passport applicants to produce,submit/upload was carefully thought through(not stupid) and backed by certain laws and policy documents approved by the Federal Government. through laws supervising ministry-in this case,the Ministry of Interior.

"It is quite important, especially based on certain Intel we have( but cannot disclose publicly), that anyone,a Nigerian of course who wishes to obtain a Nigerian passport -a document of authority for identification and travel-must prove beyond reasonable doubt,that he/she is a Nigerian citizen.

"For your claim of being a Nigerian citizen to hold water there has to be a document that "ties" you to a local government(indigenous area) within the country.

"This document is that what we request the applicants present to the US amongst others to authenticate that claim of being a citizen. 

"You may also want to read up on the particular part of the Nigerian constitution that borders on citizenship for clarification Sir.

"So Sir,we hope thst with these few points of outside have been able to convince and not confuse you"

A driver was detained by members of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos Police Department after packing fifteen children inside a Volkswagen Passat.

Around 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, anxious bystanders on the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge reported seeing the car.

When the police intervened, they discovered that the driver—who had been hired to drive the kids to the beach—had packed 11 kids in one car and confined four of them inside the trunk. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

According to Dubai-based newspaper Khaleej Times, the men barged into the exchange and smashed the glass barrier between the customers and the staff, stole the money in multiple currencies and fled. When converted, the money amounts N225.4million.

The Police in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) say they have arrested five Nigerians who "stormed a money exchange in Sharjah and fled with Dh2.3 million".

According to Dubai-based newspaper Khaleej Times, the men barged into the exchange and smashed the glass barrier between the customers and the staff, stole the money in multiple currencies and fled.

When converted, the money amounts N225.4million. 

Two employees at the exchange were injured as they resisted the robbers, one of them eventually managing to notify the Police. 

The paper aid the Sharjah Police coordinated with forces from Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah and Ajman to nab the suspects from four emirates within 48 hours after the robbery was committed. 

The incident was reported at Al Ansari Exchange in Al Tawoon area, a top police official saying the suspects came to the UAE on visit visas on March 18.

For two days, they studied the exchange office before deciding to commit the robbery around midnight — just before the shop was to close. On March 20, four suspects stormed into the exchange office, while one waited in a car outside. After the four suspects rushed out with the money, they fled in a car.

Major-General Saif Al Zeri Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of the Sharjah Police, said the whole amount had been recovered.

"The police team reached the site within seven minutes after the robbery was reported,” Khaleej Times quoted the police officer as saying. “The injured staff members were rushed to the hospital, where they were discharged the next day.”

The police lifted forensic evidence from the site and formed a team to crack the case. "Arrest warrants for the suspects were circulated at all ports of the country to prevent them from leaving."

The police retrieved the number plate of the car in which the suspects fled. One of the suspects was arrested in Sharjah, after which he led the police to the others — two in Ajman, one in Abu Dhabi and one in Ras Al Khaimah.

All the suspects were said to have confessed to the crime.

The statement also addressed existing Air Operator Certificate (AOC) holders, urging compliance with regulations and emphasizing the importance of valid certification for charter operations.

I am writing to seek your genuine knowledge and insight on an issue that's beginning to look odd to me concerning my relocation plan to Finland through a work route.
So my story goes like this, My neighbor left for Finland last year September and he has started working almost immediately. After several gisting and all since he got there, I mentioned to him that I would also love to come over since he confirmed that there are nice jobs there. So he told him it was his in-law that helped him with the processing and he could talk to him on my behalf if I'm serious about it. Eventually, he got back to me and told me the requirements and the amount it would cost me. He said he(the in-law) would be the one to help me get the job after which he would start processing my work Visa and Residence Permit immediately.

The Odd part
Now what's strange to me is that, he claims it is from there they would process my visa and I wouldn't have to do biometric, medical and even interview here in Nigeria. That sounds not right to me because with my little understanding, the Finnish embassy is supposed to invite me for an interview at some point before issuing me a visa into their country. My neighbor claims, it is when I get to Finland that I would then do the biometric and medical and within one week they would issue me my residence permit.

“We advise the public to be vigilant as strong winds may precede the onset of thunderstorms,” the report said.

“Additionally, staying hydrated is paramount during such weather conditions. NiMet advises individuals to consume plenty of water to maintain hydration amidst potential thunderstorms.

“Airline operators are advised to get updated weather reports and forecasts from NiMet for effective planning in their operations,” it said.

PUNCH Online reported on Thursday, April 11, 2024, that NiMet predicted sunshine and thunderstorms from Thursday to Saturday across the country.

NiMet’s weather outlook released on Wednesday in Abuja, forecasts sunny skies on Thursday with few patches of clouds over the northern region with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Taraba during the afternoon and evening hours.

Cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine were expected over the North Central region with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, Kogi and Benue.
