Now I decided to invest and farm cassava, but was discouraged by the cost estimate I got from the platform. 

I'm actually working on three hectares for the start and see how it goes.

Now I can give a breakdown of my expenses.

Cost of renting 1hectr: #5000( five thousand naira)
Cost of clearing: I spent #15000( 15 thousand naira 
The cost of help is #10 naira for one. How it works here is 400 heeps, after calculation, you will get #4000 but if you plead with the workers you might get lucky for #3000.

Fan Milk PLC has announced a strategic 5-year partnership agreement with Obasanjo Farms Nigeria Limited, aimed at advancing dairy farming expansion and promoting local sourcing of dairy raw materials in Nigeria.

Former president and Chairman of Obasanjo Farms Limited, Olusegun Obasanjo, expressed excitement over the partnership to drive forward dairy farm expansion, enhance productivity, and contribute to the development of Nigeria’s agricultural sector.

The General Manager of Danone Sub-Saharan Africa, Mr. Herve Barrere, noted that the partnership emphasizes the importance of sourcing raw materials locally, empowering local farmers, improving their livelihoods, and contributing to the growth of the agricultural sector.

According to the terms of the partnership agreement, Fan Milk Plc would off-take the fresh milk produced and would also provide training and technical capacity building for the personnel.

Barrere explained that the partnership marks a milestone in Fan Milk PLC’s commitment to backward integration, following the successful launch of its model dairy farm in Odeda Ogun State and training for local dairy farmers in the Odeda Dairy Training Institute in 2022.

He emphasized that the collaboration also aligns with some of the current government administration’s agenda, including ensuring food security, promoting economic growth and job creation, and ending poverty.

The Director, Legal Public Affairs, and General Secretary of Fan Milk, Olakunle Olusanya, stated that this partnership is a testament to Fan Milk PLC’s commitment to fostering sustainable dairy development, increasing local food security, and improving the business ecosystem in Nigeria.

Also speaking was the project lead for Obasanjo Farms Nigeria Limited, Dr. Olusegun Ariyo, who stated that the partnership will enable both companies to take steps towards a more efficient and economically sustainable environment for dairy farming in Nigeria.

Fan Milk Plc Partners Obasanjo Farms On Advancement Of Dairy Farming

The Katsina State Government has converted 722 local government workers to agricultural extension service officers in order to support farmers with proper information to enhance food security and agricultural production in the state.
Governor Dikko Radda made this disclosure in Katsina at a two-day training organized for the workers with the theme “Building the Future of Extension Services,” saying each of the 361 political wards across the 34 local government areas of the state would have not less than two agricultural extension officers.
The governor stated that the decision became imperative as a game-changer for agricultural development to address the manpower shortage in agricultural extension services, adding that as of May 2023, the state had only 72 extension workers.
He noted that the conversion was to strengthen extension services and ensure massive food production, assuring farmers that the government would provide them with improved seeds and other inputs to boost productivity.
Radda explained that they will be trained in their respective senatorial zones and local government areas to ensure that they master the concept very well, and that each of them will be given a motorcycle for easy movement within their area of responsibility.
Also speaking was the Commissioner of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Ahmed Bakori, who noted that the government was determined to transform agricultural activities to attain food sufficiency and security, as well as address the current insecurity in the state.
The commissioner said that the responsibility of the extension workers was to deliver the latest scientific information regarding farming that would trigger growth in agriculture directly to farmers, while charging the participants to pay attention to what they would be taught so they would be able to disseminate it properly to farmers.

The African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF) has handed over the newly upgraded greenhouse facility, equipped with cutting-edge technology aimed at revolutionizing seed storage and production and other facilities to Institute For Agricultural Research (IAR) under the PBR Cowpea Seed Project funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF).

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Director Programme Development and Commercialisation, Dr. Emmanuel Okogbenin said unveiling the facility is representing not only a physical structure, but also a symbol of their commitment to innovation and progress in agriculture. 

Dr. Okogbenin also said the upgraded greenhouse, powered by a robust 100KVA solar system, stands as a testament to their dedication to harnessing renewable energy sources for the betterment of agricultural practices. 

Integrated within the facility are cooling units and a 30KVA solar-powered cold storage facility. 

"These in addition are not merely amenities, but crucial components in our quest to preserve the quality and viability of PBR cowpea nucleus, breeder, and foundation seeds during storage," he said.

According to him, "this facility, will ensure optimal conditions for seed preservation, safeguarding the genetic integrity of our agricultural heritage". 

The Director said their vision extends beyond mere preservation; encompassing the enhancement of seed quality and productivity, hence, alongside the greenhouse upgrades with installed solar system powered irrigation facilities covering two hectares of land. 

"This strategic initiative ensures all-year-round seed production, empowering our researchers and and by implication, farmers with the tools needed to meet the growing demands of a dynamic agricultural landscape.

"This achievement would not have been possible without the collective efforts and unwavering support of various stakeholders.

He commended the dedication and expertise of the researchers and technicians, whose tireless efforts have transformed vision into tangible success.

In his remarks, the Executive Director Institute For Agricultural Research (IAR) Professor Ado Yusuf said, AATF has been in partnership with the institute for over two decades with full support.

He said, having critical facilities from the AATF will assist its researchers to conduct their activities within a short period of time.

Speaking on the cooling facilities, Prof. Ado expressed satisfaction and assured the donor that the institute will use it judiciously.

The Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has called for the revitalization of two irrigation projects in his state; he also made the case for the takeover of the Federal College of Education Gwoza and the resumption of the repatriation of Nigerian refugees living in Chad, Niger, and Cameroon.
The governor disclosed this to journalists after meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja, noting that the South Chad and Yauri irrigations in the state have the potential to produce food to cater for the needs of the entire northern Nigeria.
He lamented that the two irrigation projects have been threatened by the Boko Haram insurgency, adding that in order to revitalize the project, there is a need to consider establishing a very strong security outfit in the Lake Chad Basin so that people shall have access to the agricultural lands.
The governor said he also discussed the issue of the takeover of the Federal College of Education Gwoza, which was part of some federal institutions established by the previous administration across the country.
“You will recall that the previous administration had established some federal institutions, but unfortunately, not all of them have taken off.“ The federal government decided to stagger the takeover of these institutions.
“I wrote to Mr. President on the need for the takeoff of the Federal College of Education in Gwoza a few months ago.“ I’m pleased to notify you that the President has given approval for the immediate takeoff of the federal College of Education in Gwoza.
In addition to the agriculture initiatives and education, Zulum said he had also received Tinubu’s backing to resume the repatriation of Nigerians taking refuge in the neighboring countries of the Republic of Chad, Niger, and Cameroon.

I am a Ghanaian who's enjoyed NLF for more than a decade. I plan to cultivate cowpea and soybean now to be harvested around late July. 
It will still be raining small small. I'm from the north where the crop dries before we harvest but I bought farmland in the south where they farm twice a year. 
We just cut or uproot the beans in the north and put the whole plant in the thresher without picking the pods. 
I would like to know if this is also possible for beans harvested in July as there may be a little more moisture. It would be difficult picking the pods from 5 to 15 acres before threshing.

Senator Abubakar Kyari, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, has warned commodity traders against hoarding and speculative trading as the Federal Government intensifies efforts to reduce hardship and scale up food production in the country.

The minister made this warning in Abuja at a special Ramadan lecture/Iftar themed ‘Gratitude, Patience, and Vision: Embracing Challenges with Optimism’, organized by the Special Assistance to the President on Agriculture and Food Security, Mufutau Yinusa.

Kyari said the Federal Government would continue to work round the clock to ensure food security for the nation while addressing the insecurity challenge frontally. He lamented the increase in the cost of food items, but nothing apart from insecurity has affected agricultural production; the issue of hoarding has exacerbated the problem.

“We have seen and discovered some warehouses in big commodity areas where even gates are removed and walls are built just to hoard food stuff inside.“ Some of the problems we are facing are also man-made; hoarding, for instance, and speculative trade by commodity traders are also very huge.

“So when you look at those things and say it’s Bola Tinubu, I think we are not being fair to the administration of this government. “So we have to look inward; we all have a role to play,” the minister added.

Also speaking was the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Aliyu Abdullahi, who highlighted the Federal Government’s commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to address the economic challenges facing the nation.

The Imam of Abuja National Mosque, Sheik Muhammad Kabir, in his lecture, admonished Muslims to shun corruption while contributing positively to nation-building.

The Islamic cleric stressed the need for Nigerians to continue to pray and support the current administration in addressing the myriad of problems confronting the country.

The federal government, through the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF), has announced a support package worth N1.6 billion for ginger farmers, tagged the GRATE package, which stands for Ginger Recovery Advancement and Transformation for Economic Empowerment.
The Executive Secretary of NADF, Mohammed Ibrahim, disclosed this at the launch of the Ginger Blight Epidemic Control Taskforce Support Initiative in Kaduna, saying the task force was established in response to the epidemic crisis facing ginger in three states and Abuja.
The NADF Secretary disclosed that 15,000 ginger farmers from Kaduna, Plateau, and Nasarawa states, including the FCT, were affected by the recent ginger blight epidemic in the country, which coincided with a period of significant growth in ginger exports.

Ibrahim lamented that the National Bureau for Statistics (NBS) has started reporting a significant increase in revenue from ginger exports, reaching N10 billion in Q2 of 2023, compared to N4.6 billion in the same period in 2022.
He highlighted the support package for ginger farmers, which includes 1pc 20kg bag of high-yield seed variety, 4pc 50kg bags of NPK fertilizer, 2pc 50kg bags of urea, 2pc 1kg bag of fungicide, 1pc 1ltr of insecticide, 2pc 1 liter of herbicide, and 1pc 2 liter of post-emergence herbicide.

“At the first instance, the federal government, through the NADF, is providing support valued at N1.6 billion, starting with 1 ha of input packs aptly named the GRATE package, which is the Ginger Recovery Advancement and Transformation for Economic Empowerment,” he said.
The Technical Assistant on Agriculture, Office of the Vice President, Marian Moon, remarked that the presidency is addressing agriculture and ginger farming as part of the government’s renewed hope agenda, while encouraging farmers to boost ginger production in the country to meet global demand for Nigerian ginger, citing Mexico’s efforts to grow it due to its high quality.

In Abia, beneficiaries from all local governments of the state, including those nominated by the state government and various farmer associations, gathered at the NALDA Institute of Agribusiness and Entrepreneurship, IsiAla Okpu community in Osisioma Local Government Area, to receive empowerment packages from NALDA officials.
It would be recalled that President Tinubu had declared a state of emergency on food, hence the move by NALDA to complement the president’s food security through an empowerment program to cushion the effect of the high cost of living.

Today I caught one of the birds that usually comes to attack my free range chickens on my farm. Caught it with my bare hands. 

Those claws you are seeing there are so sharp and strong. I pierced my skin and injured me but I won't let go. Lol

This tiny bird that should weigh less than 500g will attack a mature chicken and eat it alive right there on the floor as it definitely can't carry the chicken which is heavier than it.

I've lost a few birds to this thieve. Today was the day for the owner.

Caught One Of The Bird That Usually Attacks My Free Range Chickens.

I am going to be as brief as possible. I just built a house for my old man around Atan Otta, Ogun state. The back is uncompleted.

Last year, he bought some white birds for consumption and none died so I decided to set up a poultry for him so he can keep himself busy as he doesn't like being idle. It was agreed that he should get about 20 birds to test the water before procuring another batch for December business. He got 10 white broiler birds and someone then helped him to source 10 brown births from another source.

Unfortunately, the brown birds started dying 
after a week one after the other. It always starts with the bird gasping for air, then it starts to doze off and die. Today alone two have died. The last bird in the video seems dead this morning. I buried one but the second was still breathing. This evening, I went to check it and noticed that it was shaking its head and trying to get up.

If this one dies, it will be the third.

What can I do to protect the rest and prevent the birds from dying?
