Have you ever thought about what would it be like if something, that is naturally a part of your body, can actually break a world record? You may have gotten used to that body part but for others, it could be an unusual sight. This Turkish man named Mehmet Özyürek has the world's largest nose on a living person. The 71-year-old man has an impressive appendage. Sure, there could be others out there who have a longer nose, but they've never made themselves known to Guinness. World Records, and certainly never made themselves available to have their nose measured on TV for everyone to see. The longest nose on a living person measures 8.8 cm (3.46 in) from the bridge to the tip and belongs to Mehmet Özyürek (Turkey). Mehmet's magnificent nose was measured #OnThisDay in 2010 on the set of TV show @LoShowdeiRecord in Rome, Italy pic.twitter.com/AYJWJ9EuM8 — #GWR2022 OUT NOW (@GWR) March 18, 2018 As the nose is one of the few body parts - alongside the ears - that continues to grow as we age, there's a good chance that a further measurement 11 years later would find that he's only extended his record. Even he certainly has the longest recorded nose on a living person, he may not have the longest nose in history. There have been many with longer or at least long noses much before him. If reports are to be believed one of the longest noses belonged to a man called Thomas Wedders. This man, who was also known as Thomas Wadhouse was a circus performer from Yorkshire who lived in the 18th century. His party trick was that his nose was allegedly absolutely huge. This is what continues to bring him fame even now after centuries. Believe it or not, Thomas Wedders, a circus worker in 18th-century England, had a 7.5-inch-long nose! #100BIONS pic.twitter.com/4CiONAhRuY — Believe It or Not! (@Ripleys) April 8, 2019 Apparently, Wedders' nose was 19 centimetres - that's 7.5 inches long. This makes Özyürek's nose look much tinier in front of Wadders. To be fair, Guinness World Records has even awarded a posthumous record for World's Largest Nose to Wadders, and a wax reproduction of his head is in the Ripley's Believe It or Not museum. Wedders died aged around 50 or 52 in Yorkshire, but the notoriety of his famous nose lives on to this day.
