Tony Okafor,Awka Anglican Church hails Obiano on improved security in Anambra The Awka Diocese of the Church of Nigeria,Anglican Communion,on Sunday commended the Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, for his swift response to security situations in the state. The Chairman of the Diocesan Central Synod Planning Committee, Dr Emma Ezenwaji, stated this at a press conference at St Michael and All Angels Church, Nawfia, in the Njikoka Local Government Area of the state. Anambra State recently had been under attack by gunmen who had at several times unleashed mayhems on police formations in the state and killed no fewer than 16 security operatives. But the church at conference said it was satisfied with the measures put in place by the governor to contain the situation in the past few weeks. "We are impressed with the measures the governor has put in place to check the security situation in the state. In the past few weeks,we have relative peace in the state. He said the situation had encouraged the church to go ahead to hold its synod on Friday through Sunday. He said three governors in the South- East ; ministers, about 100 bishops, and over 2,500 delegates were expected to grace the 2nd session of the 12th synod of the Diocese. Ezenwaji said the synod themed: 'Expanding our ministerial coast - implication for the ordained and laity' would hold at St Michael and All Angels' Anglican Church, Nawfia . Ezenwaji said the bishop of the diocese who doubles as the Archbishop of the Province of the Niger, Most Revd Alex Ibezim, would be delivering his presidential charge on Saturday. He said apart from the governors, ministers and other top dignitaries who were expected to grace the event, more than 2,500 guests would be attending the ceremony. The Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee , Mr Obinna Etele, said adequate preparation had been made to ensure that there would be a hitch-free synod.
