Stabbed In The Back!

24

She walked down lonely road that led to the ghetto that housed the shack she called home, this is the norm everyday. After the close of work by 6pm, she stays an extra four hours to take stock and balance the ledgers. As she trudged home, she thought of what her life had become after the death of her parents in a fatal autocrash, living behind an unrecognizable charred remains of their bodies, she had to drop out of school, and saddled with the responsibility of looking after the twins, chidi and chima. A crack sound startles her out of her reverie, she pauses and look around fearfully, sensing no movement after about 20seconds, she continues her journey, while stealing furtive glances left right. She hasn't taken upto ten steps when she felt a hand clasped tightly on her mouth and another on her neck, she was been strangled! The soft firm breasts pressing on her back, implying that her assailant was a female. She swiftly uses the ball of her feet on the sheen of her attacker while following up with an elbow to the stomach. The attacker's grip loosens, giving her the opportunity of turning and headbutting her assailant, " who are you?" She asks, " stay away from Ekene" the lady replies while writhing on the tarred road. She opens her mouth to speak, when she feels the warm liquid from her back to her stomach followed by the sharp pain! She has been STABBED IN THE BACK! she closes her eyes in pain and open them again to see her best friend Kainene with a bloody knife helping the strange lady up and leaving her bleeding her life out! She thought about her loving Ekene, and how they would not walk down the aisle after the promises to each other, she thought about the twins and their welfare. With her last breath, she muttered Eke . ..en..e ..,.. and finally closed her eyes in death
