"Nigeria" has failed "Nigerians" to an extent that NYSC has become the most common evidence of being a graduate. The pride of many "Nigerian" graduates lies in NYSC uniform and NYSC certificate, not in knowledge and job opportunities. Degree certificates are never posted on social media. But NYSC certificates are posted on social media as if NYSC is more important or more relevant than the degree. I do not mean that those who post NYSC on social media are foolish. My insinuation is that the educational standard and job market in the country are so frustrating that many graduates take solace in NYSC. After posting the certificate, some graduates pay bribe to get jobs while many are either unemployable or employable but unemployed. Since the NYSC neither averts bribe for jobs nor guarantee employability and employment, where is the glory of its certificate? Why do people post the NYSC uniform and certificate as if the two are the most valuable aspects of being a graduate? I think it is pointless to post NYSC certificates on social media, if degree results cannot be made available on the same social media. The degree is the achievement. Then, the most relevant achievement is how you use the knowledge to improve the society. NYSC is just like matriculation and convocation. Not all that matriculate graduate or graduate with good grades. Not all that get convocated contribute meaningfully to the society.
