There was a time in 2019 when the Pope went on his knees pleading with the leaders of South Sudan to stop killing themselves. Right at the Vatican, he kissed their shoes and begged them passionately to allow peace reign because the country had been violently wracked by a civil war and all kinds of conflicts, millions had died. The Pope's effort was not in vain. The warring factions have signed a peace deal and there is a government of national unity in place. Sometimes, we just need a neutral party to talk sense to us, warlords are humans too. The woman in the photo, Rebecca Nyandeng De Mabior, is the widow of John Garang, after the peace deal, she was made one of the vice presidents, her husband was the founding father of South Sudan itself until his tragic death in a helicopter crash. She is a very powerful woman, she is so powerful that she alone can singlehandledly destabilize the entire country if she so wills. If leaders of South Sudan can fix their tribal differences and work together, their country will become the envy of Africa and the world because the country has everything to become a prosperous place. Goodluck to the South Sudanese people as they look to a better future together.
