Nasarawa Coalition of Health professionals,an umbrella body comprising of Pharmacists, Medical Laboratory Scientists, nurses, physiotherapist, radiographers, physicians and medical and allied health workers on Friday 04 June 2021 decleared strike to begin 8am today 07 June 2021. Their grievance among others are: 1. Non implementation of promotion in the last 12 years 2. No annual increment in salaries in the last 12 years. One Pharmacist lamented that he was employed 14 years ago and still collects the salaries of Pharmacist1 (grade level 9) whereas on paper he is a principal pharmacist (grade level 13). To matters worse, colleagues employed after him entered at level 10. Some new pharmacists were employed late last year, they're my seniors by rank. Nothing kills moral more this. He was a bachelor when he got the job. Now, he's a proud family man (1 wife, 4 boys) and same taken home pay. Hana! One principal nursing officer calculated that conservatively, he suffered close N8m loss in salaries due to lack of promotion and annual increment. 'We have been asked to sacrifice, but this is too much. Why are civil servant only ones to make sacrifice?' he asked, tearfully. Politicians and their cronies are living fat and civil servants are denied even their entitled stipend.
