LAST Friday, the Social Media was awash with news of the burial of the mother of Obi Iyiegbu, aka Obi Cubana in Oba, Anambra State. The mournful ceremony became a display of wealth and appreciation of friendship. The focus of the burial was not the life the deceased lived but the positive influence of his son. According to reports, Obi Cubana received gifts and donations totalling hundreds of millions from friends and associates. Most of the donors are the people he met at one station in life and offered them help, transforming their lives from grass to grace. The roll call of sympathizers at the burial were not the usual political elites or political businessmen. They were friend of Obi Cubana and not friends of power. The lesson from Oba is simple, rendering genuine help to people is the defining moment of life. Obi Cubana is a good lesson in that regard!
