1.) Ernest Asuzu: His close friend and journalist, Sam Anokam, who confirmed the sad incident to PREMIUM TIMES, said he died on Tuesday night. He was 37. Asuzu began his acting career in the ’90s and rose to prominence after he starred in the 1997 Nollywood classic, ‘Rituals’ He was the toast of Nollywood until his career nosedived after he came down with a stroke in 2015 which affected his speech. He was also bedridden for three years. In his last interview published by this newspaper in December 2020, Asuzu said his problem was spiritual. He was also planning a return to Nollywood and music after an eight-year hiatus. He launched a music album, a 7-track album titled, ‘The Truth’ in December 2020. 2.) Dan Nkoloagu: veteran Nollywood actor, Dan Nkoloagu, has died. His son, Dan Nkoloagu Jnr., broke the news on Facebook on Monday. According to him, the movie veteran passed away on Friday after a brief illness. Sharing a photo of his late dad on his hospital bed, Nkoloagu Jnr, wrote: “It was a black Friday for us as my Dad left us without saying goodbye.” Until his death, the late actor had starred in several Nollywood epic movies and series. He was renowned for playing either a chief priest or a native doctor in several Nollywood movies. The late actor was a seasoned filmmaker and a retired broadcaster with Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria. His movie credits, ‘40 days and 40 Nights’, ‘Okada Man’, ‘Warriors Heart’, ‘My Vision’, ‘Midwife’, ‘Royal Doom’, ‘Alice my First Lady’ and ‘Moments of tears’. 3.) David mela: Nollywood actor and fashion designer, Mela David, has been reported dead. He is said to have died on Monday night, January 11, 2021, after battling an unknown ailment. Friends of the actor across Africa have flooded social media with fond memories of him. David Mela is noted for movies like Indoor Action, A man's Ego, She is not perfect but I love her, sweet berry, I think I like you, and Romance Night. He made a breakthrough in the Nigerian Film industry after playing a lead role in the movie titled Romance Night and has produced a couple of movies as well. Mr. David Mela is the Chief Executive Officer of DMELS production and the creative director at Dmels couture located in Lagos Nigeria. By Prince Fiifi Yorke 4.) Jim Lawson: Nollywood has lost yet another gem as a veteran actor, Jim Lawson Maduike is reportedly dead. The Imo-born thespian died today, January 9 after reportedly complaining of body pains at around 12 pm. Before his death, Maduike was a famous Nollywood actor, radio broadcaster, writer, voice-over artist, filmmaker and a television personality. He joined the film industry in 2004 where he starred in several films. His death comes days after the death of popular Nollywood actress Folanke. Orisabunmi who was a native of Olla in Kwara State died at age 60 at her residence in Ibadan, Oyo State. She was said to have died after a brief illness. The Kwara born actress dies four months after the death of her ex-husband, Jimoh Aliu, who was popularly known as Aworo. She was well known from the 80s for her roles as a priestess, pacifist, or the good witch in movies. She has played some iconic roles like ‘Asabi’ in “Oluwerimagboojo”, and the priestess in “Ayanmo Eda”. 5.) Orisabunmi: The Nigerian film industry has lost another veteran Yoruba actor, Folake Aremu, popularly known as Orisabunmi. She died at the age of 60. The Kwara born actress dies four months after the death of her ex-husband, Jimoh Aliu, who was popularly known as Aworo. President of the Theatre Arts And Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) Bolaji Amusan, known as Mr. Latin, confirmed she died on Tuesday night. Also, another senior TAMPAN member Tunde Ola-Yusuff also stated that “She left without a goodbye” in a post on social media. She was well known from the 80s for her roles as a priestess, pacifist, or the good witch in movies. She has played some iconic roles like ‘Asabi’ in “Oluwerimagboojo”, and the priestess in “Ayanmo Eda”. Years after her divorce from her ex-husband, she still had something good to say about him. In an interview with a news media, she said: We had fulfilled our time as a couple. Beyond that, he was a father figure to me. He mentored me in the film and theatre industry. All I can say about him is that he was a good father. I cannot forget him and what he stood for. Today, people know me as Orisabumi. That is as a result of the grace of God and the goodwill of Baba Jimoh Aliu. God gave me fame through him.
