Sahel Military Games Opening: Let's Cement our African Brotherhood Through Military Sports - Irabor By Olayemi Esan The Chief of Defence Stage, General Lucky Irabor has charged Athletes from various Sahel Countries who are currently in Nigeria for the CDS Sahel Military Games in Africa to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship and strive to put in Ultima performance towards winning more race. "By organizing this event, we are mindful of the need to foster comqredship among our personnel in a bid to meet with the detailed of our professional calling. "This Fiesta is intended to promote synergy through military sports interaction as well as cement our African Brotherhood. For the officiating team, the CDS General Irabor urged them to be professional in their task of officiating the various events in order to ensure an acceptable result. In this regard, the Chief of Defence Staff, therefore emplore all participants to totally commit all energy into achievng success through result. However, the CDS also expressed a profound gratitude to the President Muhammadu Buhari, Honourable Minister of Defence and Special Guest guest of Honour for their unflinching support to the growth and development of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and providing enabling environment to hold the event in Nigeria. In his keynote address, the Special Guest of Honour, the Honourable Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu said, the ceremony will awaking the the spirit of comradeship and friendship in the Sahel region and beyond. Onu noted that the Sahel region has the greatest challenge in terms of political instability and crisis in the continent. "Building friendship and better understanding through sports among the countries in the region is not only creative but very innovative. " Soldiers from various armed Forces of different countries in the region today come together under a peaceful environment to play games on the same field, eat, drink, crack jokes together is a new beginning, which is the tree of love and brotherhood. Onu added that the competition is coming at the appropriate time and no doubt it will play an important role to solve many of the security challenges facing the Sahel region through athletics games. He commended the OSMA President, Brigadier General Abdullahi Maikano for using this event to fulfill one of his campaign promises. This event will promote and inculcate core values of military. Addressing the media, the OSMA President, Brig. Gen Abdullahi Maikano thanked all services Chiefs, all invited guests, participants and the general public for their supports and confident in OSMA and CISM as a whole.
