How Twitter Have Been Used To Incite Violence In Lagos

112

I will use lagos as a case study and how Twitter have been used to incite violence in that city. The first case happened during the xenophobia attack in South Africa, something unusual happened in Lagos ,as Nigerians on Twitter got the news of xenophobia attack in South Africa, for the very first time in the history of lagos, people started looting shoprite shops in lagos, many Twitter influencers directly and indirectly incited their followers and encouraged their followers to attack businesses owned by south Africans, the sad thing is many foreigners were attacked, businesses were looted and properties destroyed. Second case was during the endsar protest, we all know that Twitter was the source of every news during the protest, the protest started on Twitter and eventually escalated without control and organization offline, Twitter and Twitter influencers were also implicated in their role in causing anarchy, loss of lives and properties in lagos state. Till today, nobody on Twitter including the organization called Twitter have apologized for their role in causing choas and anarchy in Lagos state.
