Why Do They Beat Boys On The Buttocks In Primary And Secondary Schools?

I want to know the real reason boys are mostly beaten on their buttocks in most primary and secondary schools in Nigeria. I went around the town recently doing early morning exercise. I saw that in most schools when they are flogging late comers,it is usually on the buttocks they beat boys. I started asking some boys who are going to school where they usually flog them and all of them confirmed what I saw in the morning. That makes me begin to wonder how it all started. It is as if to flog boys on the hands is a taboo in Nigeria.
