In the moment that he considers one of the worst in his life, Christian Wood folded his 6-foot-10 frame in half and put his head in his hands as he realized he was not going to be selected in the NBA draft. His manager stood to one side. His nephew stood about a foot away from his polished black shoes that stuck far out from his suit pants. His mother, Jeanette Stewart, was behind him, along with his college coach, Dave Rice. “As soon as the first round was over on draft night, I was like, ‘I don’t know what’s going on,’ ” he recalled nearly 11 months after that day. “After the 39th pick of the NBA draft, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m still not picked. ’ ” His friends and family had gathered at the Fizz Lounge, at Caesars Palace, to celebrate. Earlier in the night, when Wood didn’t go in the first round of the draft as he had expected, he began tweeting. “Just waiting for my name to get called,” he wrote. Minutes later: “Don’t be scared to draft me I’m the biggest sleeper in the draft,” he added. And finally: “#Justwait. ” Still, nothing happened. As Wood’s head rested on his hands, a photographer from the Las Vegas Review Journal, captured the heartbreaking moment. Gary Parrish, a CBS columnist, tweeted out the photo the next morning. It went viral, appearing on websites. And it Got worse Wood, now 25, revealved he was also dumped by his then girlfriend after failing to initially realise his dream of going pro. She’d flown to Las Vegas to help him celebrate but after dropping her off at the airport afterwards he never saw her again. That’s proving to be an incredibly shortsighted decision. wood recently signed a 3years $43 million deal with the Houston Rockets.
