Nigeria’s topmost independent economic commentator, Mr Alfred Rewane has attributed the prompt and unexpected exit of Nigeria from recession to the successful implementation of the Buhari-Osinbajo Economic Sustainability Plan. Speaking on Channels TV twice in the last 24 hours, the internationally reputed economist says “the recession happened because of the Economic Sustainability Plan with an intervention of almost N3/N4trillion and it was programmed to end in 12 months. Has it achieved its objectives? Yes.“ It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had asked his deputy, Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo to lead the development of an Economic Sustainability Plan after the economic fall out of the pandemic, including a total economic lock down for months. Osinbajo delivered on the assignment and the President further requested him to supervise the implementation of the ESP.
