By law, there are certain places that enjoys immunity and provide such to any resident.

By law, no policeman, efcc or Military has the locus standi to enforce an arrest in these places.

1. Court Of Law

It is against the law to arrest anyone in the court's premises. I guess one could just steal something and run to the court premises to chill.
While an arrest can't be enforced in a Nigerian court, the security in the court has the right to throw you out of the compound.

2. National Assembly

This one is not even different from the court of law because it is also an house of Law. No arrest can be done there. It againt legal ethics.

3. Government House 

Yahaya bello comes to mind, you can't arrest a culprit in the government house. But that does not cover the governor's car too. 

Reasons Bello can't be arrested now is because he is chilling under mortuary standard AC at the government house. The law is the law, but a seige can be laid outside the government house until the culprit walks out.

Google Nigeria Trains Women Journalists On Generative AI and Digital Skills

On Wednesday, members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ Lagos State chapter, experienced fresh and invigorating training on generative AI and Digital Skills by Google Nigeria.

In a statement released by the assistant secretary of NAWOJ Lagos Omolola Olamijulo on 18th April, 2024, noted that, the Google-led training which was held at its Ikoyi office in Lagos was aimed at equipping female journalists across platforms with the knowledge and skills necessary to leverage AI for story telling, and creating content.

In her remark, the Vice Chairperson, NAWOJ,Lagos Comrade Bunmi Yekini said the association prioritizes development and upskilling of her members and opportunities like this Google-led training for members is a welcomed one, “The training exposed our members to both existing and new tools that's available on Google. It's interesting to know how much tools such as Google lens, and Google photos can do”.

“ And then the Gemini Era where you have the ‘Gemini Search’, ‘Circle to Search’ and other new tools that would not just make your job easy but also give you the power to be more imaginative and creative”, She added.

The program was designed to empower women in media by giving them the tools and confidence to understand and utilize AI potential in enhancing their work.

Some of the covered areas for training include:

*Understanding AI and its applications in Media* where participants went through the basics of understanding AI concepts.

*Using AI for content creation and storytelling* participants learnt how to send AI on a mission and get positive results.

The training programme received positive responses from participants who were selected across chapels in the state.

The media industry is rapidly changing, and AI is poised to play a transformative role.

“The initiative behind the programme is to highlight the growing recognition of the need to bridge the gap in the field of AI, by equipping women in Media with AI expertise, the program empowers and sharpens their skill at storytelling and content creation”.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the group's Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, described the examinations as illegal and unacceptable by any standard because they were taken on days declared as public holidays by the Nigerian Government.

An Islamic human rights advocacy group, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has declared examinations taken in two universities in Enugu on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 9 and 10, 2024 as illegal, null and void.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the group's Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, described the examinations as illegal and unacceptable by any standard because they were taken on days declared as public holidays by the Nigerian Government.

The group called for the cancellation of the examination and tests.

It said, "Reports reaching us from the University of Nigeria Enugu Campus (UNEC) and the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu, reveal that both institutions ignored the holidays declared on Tuesday and Wednesday by the Federal Government (FG). While the former conducted examinations on Salah day, the latter held two tests on that day.

"These are acts of insubordination and outright disobedience on the part of the vice chancellors of both institutions. We expect the minister of education to take up the matter with them. Failure to call them to order will only egg them further to act arrogantly against policies and decisions of FG in future.

"It has never been heard that a university based in the Muslim-dominated North conducted an examination or test during a Christmas or Easter holiday. Some authorities in the South-East are out-Heroding Herod in their quest to persecute Muslims by all means.

“Islamophobia is becoming rampant in that zone but what is surprising is that, this time, it is coming from higher institutions where people are expected to be more liberal.

"Meanwhile we are constrained to declare both the examination and the tests taken in both universities as illegal, illegitimate, unlawful and unconstitutional. They are ultra vires, null and void.”

The organisation called on the vice-chancellors of the two schools “to ensure that no student, whether Muslim or Christian, who missed the examination or the tests is sanctioned”.

It continued, “Those events never happened. There was simply no examination. Neither was there any test because nothing of that nature is expected to happen during a properly declared holiday.

“At least there is ample evidence that the holidays were announced ahead of time and long enough for all members of the public to be fully aware.

"That examination and those two tests constitute a void, a sham, a nullity and anything built on nullity remains a nullity.

“That examination never took place in UNEC and no tests were held in the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu. That is the position of the law.
"No examination or test held in any school, polytechnic or university on a public holiday can be recognized by the law. A public holiday is holiday period for all and sundry, civil servants, teachers, lecturers and students. The law does not recognize invigilators and candidates on public holidays.

"MURIC advises the two vice-chancellors, through the deans of the erring faculties, with the active participation of the heads of departments, to instruct the lecturers to cancel the ill-conceived, bitterness-loaded and luciferous examination and tests.

“They never took place. This is the soft landing we can offer the erring lecturers, department and faculty.

"It is our fervent hope that nobody will make any attempt to massage egos because both the heads of departments and the deans of the faculties where this abnormality occurred may have to explain the reason for their dereliction of duty. Damage-control measures may be too late at that time."

Popular DJ Obianuju Catherine Udeh aka DJ Switch has been arrested by the police in Lagos and is currently being taken to the magistrate court in Eti Osa. According to a police source who spoke to LIB, DJ Switch visited the police in Elemoro, Ajah on Monday, April 15 to complain about a man who allegedly defrauded her. According to the police, the man was arrested on the same day and has been in police custody.

The police source told LIB that DJ Switch was then invited yesterday April 17 to inquire from her what exactly she wanted, whether for the accused to be charged to court or for him to be released on bail as it is against the law to detain an accused for more than 48 hours. The source alleged that DJ Switch insisted that the only thing she wants is for the accused to do an apology which she will record and then post online which the accused bluntly refused. At this junction, the police then settled to take the matter to court since both parties were not bulging.

The police source alleged that while the officers were about to drive out with the accused to court, DJ Switch allegedly used her vehicle to block the entrance of the station and allegedly assaulted the female officers attached to the case. She was then arrested for obstructing police while on duty, resisting arrest as well as assaulting police officers. The accused was taken to the court and was remanded in prison custody.

DJ Switch is currently on her way to the Magistrate court in Eti-Osa where she will be arraigned for obstructing police officers while on duty and assaulting officers.

> Hundreds of human rights activists, on Saturday, hit the streets of Lagos to condemn what they described as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s antidemocratic approaches to issues of law enforcement as well as unjust application of state power by the Federal Government.

The Anti-Corruption Civil Society Organisations, numbering over 120, along with a huge crowd of members and supporters, stressed that the actions of the Federal Government in the ongoing face-off between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, which took an ugly dimension during the week, suggested that the bone of contention was beyond the EFCC exercising its constitutional responsibility.

According to them, from the facts and documents obtained on the matter, the EFCC never sent a letter of invitation to ex-Gov Bello.

The issue of evading arrest, they said, did not therefore exist.

“Someone who was never invited, who has a valid court order restraining his arrest and harassment, among other reliefs, until the determination of the court case, could not be said to be evading arrest. It is deliberate misinformation to turn the public against the Governor,” they said.

The anti-corruption activists and human rights crusaders, specifically condemned the military action threat by an EFCC lawyer, saying that, issuing “such a threat before a judge and inside a court was a violation of the sanctity of the courtroom.”

The Chairman of the Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, CACOL, Debo Adeniran, who led other activists during the protest on Saturday, noted that the ongoing disregard for the rule of law was not only about Yahaya Bello.

“We don’t know who the next victim will be,” he said.

“If the FG continues in its iniquitous way of trampling on the rule of law by undermining our judicial system, we will mobilise a much larger number of Nigerians to join this pro-democracy struggle. It concerns all Nigerians because we don’t know who the next victim may be,” Adeniran said.

He called on the Federal Government to first obey all the court orders preceding their own actions in court and then go ahead to vacate them through due processes of law.

“There is no point in endangering anyone’s life unnecessarily because that’s the situation we believe that Yahaya Bello is in now. If the government doesn’t handle this matter carefully, it may shoot itself on the foot and put all Nigerians in collective injury,” the activists said.

The activists warned that Government should not instigate anarchy, insisting that democracy is governed by the rule of law and not the rule of force.

They pointed out that some of them had been in the trenches for over four decades without comprising their stand on justice.

“Thirty-one years ago when we organized to confront the military for the annulment of the June 12 election by General Ibrahim Babangida’s junta, it was for the cause of justice.

“Nobody paid us a dime to organize the anti-SAP protests of 1989 that nearly shut down the entire country.

“We have organised or participated in many altruistic struggles. In the course of these selfless struggles, many of us were jailed, many were maimed, a lot lost their lives on the battlefield of the fight for justice. But we have remained undettered till date. Ours is thankless sacrifice for humanity. But we are not complaining.

“We have been on the side of the EFCC in many cases without gratification or prompting. But on this case, we insist that the EFCC is disregarding the rule of law and creating room for anarchy. And this must not be allowed to stand,” they stated.

The anti-graft CSOs stated, “Our intervention today is to ensure that each side in the ongoing but avoidable tension between the Federal Government through the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and the immediate former Governor of Kogi State gets the justice that is deserved – both the agency and the suspect.

“We feel that it was totally unnecessary to threaten military action in a civil case because it may escalate beyond proportions and cause devastating even if unintended consequences as being suggested by the EFCC through their lawyer.

“We are hearing now that some citizens of Kogi State are already saying that the FG would be held responsible if anything untoward happens to their former Governor.”

“If the FG insists on inviting the military to intervene in a civil case involving a citizen, it is better they return power to the military so that we know that we are back to ground zero. It is now very clear to all Nigerians that this Yahaya Bello’s saga is far from being about corruption. Come to think of it, how do you accuse a man of stealing an amount that the combined total of its IGR and Federal allocation for two years is not even up to? Why is the FG fishing for chicken inside a river? It doesn’t live there,” one of Nigeria’s lead activists, Gbenga Soloki, said.

“If anyone doubts our determination to continue fighting for justice on this matter, they should wake up and smell the coffee. We will not relent and neither will we retreat until justice is not only done but seen in this Yahaya Bello’s case. We won’t stop,” a spokesperson for the Coalition of Anti-Corruption Civil Society Organisations Olufemi Lawson, added.

Describing Akwa Ibom as a region of promise and tranquility, the former President highlighted its potential as the optimal location for the project. He expressed confidence in Governor Umo Eno's ability to oversee the project to fruition.

Brazil’s Legend Romario 58, Plans Surprise Comeback

Two Malaysian military helicopters collided and crashed during a training session on Tuesday, killing all 10 crew members onboard, the country’s rescue agency said.

“The two helicopters collided during flight training. All 10 victims on board have been confirmed dead by the medical officers,” Suhaimy Mohamad Suhail, senior operations commander from the fire and rescue department, said.

Footage shared online showed several helicopters flying low in a formation over the Lumut naval stadium in a flypast rehearsal ahead of the navy fleet’s open day celebrations in May.

One of the choppers was seen clipping the rear rotor of another helicopter, causing both to go into a tailspin and crash.

The two helicopters involved were a Eurocopter AS555SN Fennec and an AgustaWestland AW139, the rescue agency said.

Photos showed the Eurocopter model heavily mangled in the wreckage on the naval base stadium track with rescue personnel surrounding it as well as various debris.

The AgustaWestland helicopter crashed at the naval base’s swimming pool area.

At least nineteen persons reportedly died in a recent collision between two vehicles on the Oyo-Ogbomoso Road in Oyo State.
The Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the accident in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday.

The FRSC disclosed that the vehicles involved were a Toyota Hiace Bus with registration number NTT52ZY, travelling from Ibadan to Sokoto, and a Toyota Corolla saloon car.

Naija News understands that the crash, which reportedly happened around 07:45 a.m., was caused by a route violation commonly known as ‘One Way’.

The Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO) and Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM), Jonas Agwu, confirmed this information in a statement released in Abuja.

According to him, the collision, caused by a traffic violation, led to a head-on crash between the two vehicles and, subsequently, a fire outbreak.

The report indicated that the accident involved a total of 20 male adults.

“Of this number, 19 persons were killed, while the only surviving victim was rescued by FRSC operatives with injuries.

“FRSC rescue team that conducted the rescue operations have taken the injured victim to Opabode hospital in Oyo, for emergency medical attention.

“The dead bodies have been deposited at Oyo General Hospital morgue,” the FRSC statement noted.

Agwu reported that the Corps Marshal, Dauda Ali Biu, urged the general public to refrain from any actions that may result in road accidents.

Additionally, he instructed sector commanders to intensify their patrol activities to tackle the issue of route violations on the country’s highways.

UK police takedown Phishing as a Service provider which affected thousands of UK victims.

UK police have taken down the Phishing-as-a-Service (PhaaS) provider LabHost.

Metropolitan Police said LabHost - also known as LabRat - was used by more than 2,000 criminal users to create more than 40,000 fraudulent sites, impacting hundreds of thousands of victims worldwide.

The phishing websites were designed to trick victims into revealing personal information such as email addresses, passwords, and bank details.

Just under 70,000 individual UK victims have entered their details into one of LabHost’s fraudulent sites, with the service collecting 480,000 card numbers, 64,000 PIN numbers, and more than one million passwords used for websites and other online services.

As of today, police detectives have contacted up to 25,000 victims in the UK to tell them their data has been compromised.

What is LabHost?
Since its creation, LabHost received just under £1 million ($1,173,000) in payments from criminal users, many of whom Met cyber-crime detectives were able to identify.

A PhaaS outsources the task of having to develop and host phishing pages for a target organization, plus having to develop methods to extract stolen details, substantially dropping the barrier for entry to phishing, according to information from Trend Micro.

Users were able to use three stages of membership: 

Standard (US$179 per month). This offered dozens of pages targeting Canadian institutions and hosted of a maximum of three active phishing pages at the same time.

Premium (US$249 per month). In addition to all the features of the Standard tier, Premium offered dozens of pages targeting US institutions and increased the size of its active phishing pages to 20.

World Membership (US$300 per month). The highest tier offered over 70 phishing pages targeting international organizations and added 10 hosted phishing pages (separate to Premium or Standard licenses).

The Met Police said that shortly after the platform was disrupted, 800 users received a message identifying them and informing them that their actions are being monitored. “Many of these individuals will remain the focus of investigation over the coming weeks and months,” the Met Police statement read.

The Met’s Cyber Crime Unit joined forces with the National Crime Agency, City of London Police, Europol, Regional Organised Crime Units across the country and other international police forces - as well as partners including Chainalysis, Intel 471, Microsoft, The Shadowserver Foundation and Trend Micro - to take action and bring down the platform. The takedown has seen 37 arrests across the UK.

No fewer than 25 lives have been claimed in a ghastly accident that occurred at Aloma in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State, on Sunday.

LEADERSHIP reliably gathered that the accident occurred on Sunday morning when a fully loaded Toyota Sienna bus collided with a Toyota Hiace bus and another articulated vehicle.

Eyewitness account stated that the two vehicles collided while attempting to negotiate a pothole on the road and caught fire immediately, burning all the occupants to death.

Another eyewitness told LEADERSHIP that the accident, which happened in front of Aloma Teachers’ College, involved two buses and a trailer.

“All the passengers in the Toyota bus, including the driver were burnt to death.

“Those in the sienna bus too were burnt, with no survivor. An articulated vehicle that packed nearby the incident also caught fire in the process and burnt to ashes. A house closer to the area was also destroyed by the raging inferno.

“We are yet to confirm of any survivor, except those in the packed articulated vehicle,” said Adejo Usman, a resident of Aloma.

He said the villagers could not do anything to rescue some trapped passengers due to absence of fighting equipment.

Meanwhile, the Kogi State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Samuel Ayodeji, when contacted could not respond.

The NAF Tarmac Four cadet, simply identified as CDT Chidiebere, had reportedly died on Tuesday in the swimming pool.

Following the incident, the Nigerian Army led by one Major Inuwa who was reportedly investigating the unfortunate incident ordered soldiers including one of the Cadet officers who came with late Chidiebere to the hotel swimming pool to beat four hotel staff that were invited for interrogation to stupor.

According to the source, who didn’t want his name mentioned, the situation that led to his demise started a few days ago when a cadet officer from the Nigerian Air Force Tarmac Four came into the Hotel Royal Damgrete Umuahia to swim and have fun with his friends and drowned while swimming.
